Why choose a BAFE registered Company?

By July 17, 2013Blog

BAFE NEW LOGOChoosing fire protection from a BAFE Registered Firm ensures that its products and services conform to recognised standards.

In today’s environment of risk assessment, with the increasing responsibility for safety on the owner / occupier, it is increasingly important that the quality of fire protection ensures “fit for purpose” and is installed and maintained by “competent persons”. In buying your fire protection from a BAFE Registered Firm you are assured of this.

Where relevant an independent third party certificate of conformance is issued that can be used as part of a statutory defence in law, should the necessity arise.

If you specify fire alarm or portable fire extinguisher companies, you should be looking for BAFE registered companies.

Why…? Because BAFE is the independent 3rd party approvals organisation, which ensures quality for the fire protection industry and provides the vital reassurance that the services being bought or specified  are effective, reliable and competently maintained.

It also means you are well on the way to meeting your obligations under the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order.

What and who are BAFE?

BAFE is the independent third party registration body for the fire protection industry. For more than 25 years we have been developing schemes for UKAS accredited certification bodies to assess and approve companies to recognised standards.

Companies, and in some schemes their technicians, who meet these standards can then display the prestigious BAFE logo as a registered company – a marque of approval that tells you that they are competent and regularly assessed.

BAFE is a ‘not for profit’ organisation and our registered companies include manufacturers, installers and maintainers of fire protection products – from major international groups to small local businesses – with one thing in common: they have all invested in quality systems and training to achieve their third party certification and BAFE registration, so that you get the benefit of knowing you are dealing with competent people. The BAFE Council decides on policy and strategy and includes the principal Trade Associations, Certification bodies, government departments and agencies, the Chief Fire Officers Association and other representatives of the Industry. The staff, based on the site of the Fire Service College in Gloucestershire, represent the organisation on technical groups, promote the standards of the organisation and ensure that registered companies’ records are maintained to make sure they are fully competent.

BAFE also provides independent examination facilities to leading training organisations.
