DID YOU KNOW, IF A CONTRACTOR HAS AN ACCIDENT ON YOUR PREMISES YOU CAN BE HELD JOINTLY RESPONSIBLE ?
If HM Health and Safety call after an accident in your premises, even from an outside contractor, you as the property owner and therefore the “responsible person” will be investigated the same as the contracted Company?
As part of paying for work to be undertaken, you should “demand” and“expect” to see your contractors health and safety policies and insurance details.
You should at least ask for the following:
- Proof of attending an in date Health and Safety course.
- Electrical industry specialist Health and Safety course.
- Health and safety policy.
- Working at height course.
- Lone working course.
- Asbestos awareness course.
- Proof of employers liability insurance.
- Proof of public liability insurance.
- Risk Assessments.
- Method Statements.
In addition to this we have a £10 million efficacy insurance (five times the industry norm), which provides insurance against a “failure to operate”
Do not accept fob off answers or promises of sending it on later and never getting it.
We don’t need to be asked, we will provide this prior to starting work, we ENJOY BEING CHALLENGED.
As our Health and Safety outside consultant said, “if your contractors can not demonstrate full health and safety compliance, they are RIPPING YOU OFF”
In addition to this we are proud members of a Trade association IFEDA www.ifeda.org that has a ethical trading policy and demands full 3rd party accreditations for the work area they cover.
