We pride ourselves on being “fiercely independent” that means not answering to international corporate head offices, not being forced to meet targets that are not in the customers best interests, having a wider choice of products handpicked by us for quality, and having the local decision making power to purchase UK manufactured products therefore reducing product travel miles, ensuring the manufacturers employees are ethically employed and work to ISO 9001 manufacturing standards.

Almost all the income from goods and services are either retained locally or in the UK, which we believe is good financial recycling!

All our staff are local people, personally trained to the best quality assurance industry credentials, and without exception have the personality trait of enjoying providing a good service and working for a company with a good reputation to uphold. They do not need to meet sales targets, and are specifically told to offer the ‘best advice’ for the customer, not for our income.

As such we have a very high retention rate of existing customers and attract a significant percentage of new customers from recommendations.

Both customers and employees can access and speak to the managing director at almost any time.

Purchasing strategy

We are conscious that we are often choosing products on behalf of our customers. Especially with environmental concerns local companies have limited powers to effect change. One of the decisions that can have an effect is travel miles.

The fire extinguisher industry has become very dependent on Chinese imports, even the large brand name national companies mostly import extinguishers from China, which means if you use a water or foam extinguisher it will be expelling Chinese water.

That’s millions of litres of Chinese water imported into the UK in fire extinguishers every year. Crazy environmental practice, which is just one of the reasons we source UK made equipment.

As a rule, especially for our own company, for day to day admin purchasing we like to use local companies, next South West, next UK, not always achievable, but we do make the effort.
